KIK App Review

KIK app review

Smartphone’s have now released a new app called KIK.

There are many ways of contacting people such as texting. BUT instead of you using credit or texting allowance, if you download KIK it’s free of charge and you can then contact people who use the app.

KIK is similar to iMessenger for iPhones and also the Blackberry Messenger for Blackberry’s. Instead of just been suitable for iPhones and blackberry’s, the app KIK is now suitable for all Smartphone’s.

KIK has a variety of features such as the map. If you use the map on the new app called KIK it will allow people who you are friends with to see where you are. The map features are similar to the map on FaceBook.

Which tablet is better? Ipad or Blackberry Playbook

Which tablet is better? Ipad or Blackberry Playbook

The Ipad and Blackberry Playbook both have their similarities and differences. The Ipads are mainly aimed at business people as they do a lot more than the Blackberry’s Playbook. Why? Well Ipads are similar to laptops, they may not do what a laptop does exactly but the Ipad does come close. The Ipad is lighter than a laptop so that means your arm won’t drop off carrying the Ipad. On the other hand the Blackberry Playbook is a lot lighter than the Ipad.

The Ipad and Blackberry Playbook have both got wireless connections, this allows you to be out and about and still connect to the nearest open wireless connection. By using a wireless connection it is saving you money as you are not using any MB off your data plan.

The Blackberry Playbook does have its advantages such as the Blackberry App World; this allows people to download apps such as games, and programmes for free. This does depend on if the apps are high rated, if the apps are high rated then Blackberry App World would charge you do download, however it would state the cost before you download. In addition the Blackberry Playbook also has its disadvantages such as the battery life; battery life lasts up to roughly 7 hours. However the Ipad has an advantage over the Blackberry Playbook as the Ipads battery lasts up to 10-15 hours. The Ipad has another advantage towards the Blackberry Playbook as the Ipad has got a bigger screen than the Blackberry Playbook.

The Ipad does have its disadvantages, the disadvantages would be the Ipad can only be used if it has been connected to iTunes, some people may find this difficult if they do not have iTunes. Also an advantage for the Blackberry Playbook would be that it’s got a USB port and the Ipad hasn’t.

Ipad score 3

Blackberry Playbook score 4

Shutterstock – Weekly App Review

Shutterstock have brought out a great app for the ipad. It is really sleek and easy to navigate.

I particularly like the way you can easily and quickly scroll through images to find excatly what you are after. The navigation menu is also really unusual.

I think this is far better than the website and prefer to use it.

No More Socks – Weekly App Review

Even though Christmas is nearly here, now I have found a great little app that really helps with your Christmas shopping! No More Socks is designed to keep track of all the people you need to buy presents for, what budgets you have set and what you have bought or need to buy.

No More Socks in not only for Christmas. You can also set reminders so that you don’t forget Birthdays and plan what you want to buy people.

If you are out and about and spot something for the future you can add it to your ideas pad to look at later with a photo. You can then assign this to person or one of your contacts on your phone. If you have an idea for a present but want to compare prices online, you can create an item, browse the Internet and the save it to the app for a later date.

This is one of the best little apps I have found so far and would greatly recommend it. It just takes a little time to get used to the format of setting up events and adding people and presents. When I purchased this, it was free for a short time, but is now £1.49, but it is still a star buy.

Jennie’s score 9/10

Got a light mate

Ever needed that little bit more illumination when out on “night duty” or heard a bump in the night and light switch is just too far away?
Fear not my little friends because if you have an iPhone 4/4s you can light up the place like Christmas with the handy app iTorch4.

The app turns the flash led on the rear of your phone into a powerful torch more than capable of enough light for most tasks in a power cut and there is an SOS and strobe function, so you can turn on the strobe and party like it’s the future of 1984!

It’s free too.

Weekly app review.

Samsung Galaxy or Blackberry, still behind iOS?

As smart phones are now integral to our day to day lives and even more so in business we wanted to take a quick look at two of the top brands and compare the pro’s and con’s.

Operating system
Well the Samsung running the Android OS is always going to attract it’s fans in the open source arena and due to it’s consistent operation and flexibility it will always remain a mainstay among it’s peers, but lets not discount the Blackberry OS? now Blackberry have always maintained a steady grip on the business world since the infancy of smart devices so which do we choose? Blackberry fans will be screaming BBM!! i know, but apps such as ping chat do work in kind of the same way but you do have to register, sign in and add friends etc…

Lets be realistic here, any modern OS has it’s usual email, web access, calendar tools etc. and i personally think that it really is much of a muchness and probably down to personal preference.

Samsung 1 – Blackberry 1 (and a bit more for BBM)

Screen size & usability
Now with these two devices we really do have the polar opposites in terms of interface and how you use the device.
The samsung Galaxy is a full touch screen which really is becoming a norm in terms of smart phone interface, having your entire interface being accessed through swipes, pinches and gestures you guarantee a natural and fast usability, something i feel the Blackberry really falls behind on, but hey… again it’s a personal thing i’m used to full touch screens and just can’t get used to switching to a little finicky keyboard at the bottom of the device!! i do wonder why Blackberry still adopt this as their preferred interface method (Seen their tablet recently??)… exactly… no keys.. case closed, shut shop, goodnight sweetheart goodnight.

Samsung 1 – Blackberry 0

Final thought
Sore subject i know but lets be honest, the recent failure of it’s system which affected the use of BBM has really knocked the consumer base for six and even the dangling carrot of £60 worth of apps doesn’t seem to have sated the rabid punters so i’ll mark Blackberry down but as i said earlier personal preference will always rule and as i am brand myopic (apple fan) nothing will drag me away (APART FROM THE INFREQUENT BRICKING ON A NON JAIL-BROKEN DEVICE WHEN UPDATING SOFTWARE THROUGH ITUNES…) haha.

Samsung 1 – Blackberry 0 (Samsung wins here on these points)

I just wanted to offer something away from the beaten track of the iOS device and maybe a little food for thought?, will the Galaxy be a serious contender in the business world? I don’t know? but as a device it sure is a good one!, and will Blackberry remain a heavyweight for company use? yes i’m certain it will.

Photopad – Weekly App Review

I was using my ipad the other day and found I needed to rotate an image and found that this was not possible, so I did a little research and found the app photopad.

It is the best photo editing app I have ever used. It allows you to rotate, flip and resize images to any proportions, so great if you are listing on ebay or need to resize pictures, quickly and easily for a website. There are a number of filters, you can add extra bits through drawing tools and alter contrast to improve your photos.

This app is also available for iphone which is even better. There is also a new feature to create skin for any device. You can select any photo and the app makes it the shape of the device, you can then purchase these.

I think this is one of the best apps I have found so far, and best of all it is free!

I would rate this app 10/10, as I have found no fault with it so far!
